This page explains what data Counter Master (the countermastergame.com website and the game) handles, why, and for how long. In short: the game never asks for your name or email, statistics are anonymous and you can turn them off, and we only use your email if you give it to us.
Who is responsible
Tommaso Macioti, developer of Counter Master, is the data controller. For any request about your data, write to [email protected].
1. Email sign-up
- What data: your email address, the site language, and the date and time you signed up and confirmed.
- Why: to send you the Google Play invite link for the pre-beta and to tell you when the official beta starts and when the game launches. No third-party advertising: we never sell or share your address.
- Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by ticking the box. The link in the confirmation email tells us the address is really yours.
- Who helps us: emails are sent by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), which keeps the list on our behalf as a data processor, on servers in the European Union.
- How long: until you unsubscribe. Use the link at the bottom of any email or write to us, and you won't hear from us again. If you don't confirm your sign-up, we won't write to you beyond the email with the invite.
- Age: sign-up is for people aged 14 or over, the minimum age in Italy to consent to online services on your own.
2. Visiting the website
The website is hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.), which processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type to serve the pages and protect them from attacks. Cloudflare may process this data outside the European Union, with the safeguards required by the GDPR (EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses).
No cookies and no advertising or tracking tools. Your browser only remembers your best streak in the counter demo: it stays on your device and is never sent to us.
3. The game
The game has no accounts and never asks for your email or real name.
- Anonymous statistics and error reports: a random code created at install time (not linked to you), what happens in the game (modes, match length and results, menu pages, errors) and technical details of your device (system, model, graphics card, memory, screen, language and country from your settings). We don't collect the name you choose, the text you write or advertising IDs, and IP addresses are not stored. This helps us understand what to improve and fix bugs (our legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can turn it off at any time on the game's "Your data" page, which also has "Delete my data". Data is kept for at most 400 days on our server in Germany (Hetzner).
- Online play: to match you with an opponent, our server and Cloudflare's relay servers use your IP address while you play, without storing it. During a match your device may connect directly to your opponent's, who can therefore see your IP address.
- Leaderboards, ghosts and tournaments: when you submit a record we store the name you chose in the game (checked by a profanity filter), the score and the match recording our referee uses to verify it. The name is shown on the leaderboard. Ghosts you share contain your name and play style; sharing can be turned off in the settings.
- Friends and chat: for friends the server keeps the name you chose, your friend code, language, level, the age you declare (under or over 14) and your list of friends, requests and blocks. In groups others see your name, language and level. Chat is only between friends: under 14 only ready-made phrases, from 14 also free text, with offensive words, phone numbers, emails, links and other apps' names blocked automatically. Messages stay on the server for at most 14 days (to deliver them to players who are offline and to check reports), then they are deleted automatically; your history stays on your device. If you report someone, we attach the last messages of that conversation to the report. Legal basis: the service you ask for by using friends (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and player safety (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Bug reports, suggestions and ratings: we read what you write in "Help us improve the game" to make it better. Please don't include personal data.
- Purchases: today the shop is a test shop with no payments. When there are payments, they will go through Google Play and Steam, which handle payment data under their own rules: we never see it.
Google Play's and Steam's privacy policies also apply when you download the game.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive it in a readable format, and you can withdraw your consent (effective from then on). Write to [email protected]: we reply within one month. You can also lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it), or with the authority in your country.
Changes
If we change anything important we will update this page and the date at the top. If you have signed up and the change affects you, we will tell you by email.
